| | relieved | ] | We've just - very narrowly - escaped being scammed. And I thought I was web savvy.
We got an email notification from Paypal to say there had been a transaction for $460 today on our account. Umm, what?
I logged into Paypal straight away and someone called Olivia Hernandez was the culprit. Never heard of her or her email address! Lodged a complaint immediately and rang Paypal too for good measure. After holding for an age, I was told not to worry, they would investigate and keep us informed, and Olivia Hernandez would not be allowed access to the money.
They also told me that while they, Paypal, had sent her the money, their request for funds from our bank might not yet have gone through.
We checked online. It hadn't. I rang our bank, and spoke to someone who put a note on our account stopping the transaction.
Phew! Such relief!
Joe wasn't happy and blamed me... rather unfairly, I thought, until he pointed out that you should never, ever, click through from a website to Paypal because that's the way scammers can get your Paypal password. You should always go to Paypal direct and find the relevant transaction there instead.
I never realised that, and I'm relating this here because maybe some of you don't either. I feel quite foolish. I always thought I was clued up. I was wrong. |
